New Zealand Made Building Product Marks Industry First

Press release; New Zealand Made Building Product Marks Industry First – a James Hardie building product is the first to be certified under the new CodeMark scheme.

A Kiwi-made building product has set a new industry standard, becoming the first in the country to be certified under the new CodeMark scheme developed by the New Zealand and Australian governments.
CodeMark certification for a building product means it is deemed to comply with the New Zealand Building Code when installed correctly, and guarantees that the product will meet the performance requirements as intended.
LineaTM Weatherboard by James Hardie is now officially certified under the Trans-Tasman scheme jointly managed by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) and the New Zealand Department of Building and Housing (DBH).
Established to help consumers quickly and easily identify products that have been thoroughly tested and proven to perform, CodeMark is designed to provide national consistency in processing building consent applications when dealing with new innovative building products.
Chief Executive of the Registered Master Builders Federation, Warwick Quinn, says with a large number of products entering the market it can be a difficult choice for builders, designers and consumers on which product to select.
“It is essential that products stand the test of time and meet Building Code requirements. Having Code Mark certification means everyone can invest in their selection with confidence and New Zealand buildings maintain a high quality standard,” says Quinn.
A CodeMark certificate carries a legal status under the NZ Building Act 2004 which means that building consent authorities must accept a certified product or method of construction as compliant when used in accordance with the certificate and its installation instructions.
Prominent Auckland architectural designer Mark McLeay of Creativearch says the CodeMark scheme benefits builders, specifiers and consumers alike.
“As a designer we are able to select those products certified under the CodeMark scheme with confidence while also saving time and money during the consent process,” he says.
“The rigorous testing needed to achieve CodeMark certification, along with the NZ Building Code requirements means that Kiwis can feel confident in the performance of the products utilised in their homes,” says McLeay.
James Hardie Marketing Communications Manager, Michelle Cherrington, says the company is thrilled that LineaTM Weatherboard is the first product to be certified under the new scheme.
“For LineaTM Weatherboard to receive a CodeMark certificate is testament to the quality and reputation of the product,” she says.
Manufactured using James Hardies innovative CLD® technology, Linea Weatherboard has been in the market for 10 years and has established itself as New Zealand’s number one selling weatherboard.
The product comes with a 25 year product warranty and 15 year paint warranty with selected paint manufacturers, can be painted any colour in the spectrum and can be used to achieve a 90-minute fire rating.
