South America Set to Become Fastest Growing Destination for Kiwi Travellers

Interest in South America as a destination is steadily increasing and is expected to be the fastest growing travel market for Kiwis in 2016.

Interest in South America as a destination has steadily increased since the opening of the new direct route to Buenos Aires last month, says House of Travel’s commercial director Brent Thomas.

“We are predicting around 50% growth in the South America market next year, which will make it the most rapidly growing destination for Kiwi travellers next year,” says Thomas.

“Direct flights are always popular with New Zealanders, and they also appeal to business travellers, many of whom have connections with companies in South America and can now get there far more easily.”

Despite bookings to Buenos Aires only being open for the first quarter of 2016, interest is strong with Kiwis, many of whom have South America “on their bucket list”, Thomas adds.

He says the strength of the Kiwi dollar means people are able to stay longer when they visit the region, and also appears to be encouraging budget-conscious travellers to book their dream trips to the continent.

Direct flights from Auckland to Buenos Aires take less than 12 hours, and it’s easy to travel from the city to other popular parts of South America, including Brazil, Peru and Chile, he says.

“While these destinations have always been quite popular with Kiwi backpackers and young couples, we predict a much broader range of New Zealanders will be visiting as it has become so much more accessible.”
