Whangarei Sports Teams Mark Fifth Year of Funding From Local Man

Local sports teams receive continued support and funding five years on. Owner of Domino’s Whangarei, Jayesh Madhav, shows his love for sport by providing fundamental sponsorship of his local teams.

Dominos_TeamFrom providing new uniforms to cheering on the sidelines, a Whangarei sports enthusiast has marked five years of support and $12,000 of funding to the community’s sports teams.

Local man Jayesh Madhav has sponsored one of six local soccer teams in the same numbers of years, including the 1st and 2nd Division men’s, women’s and youth teams.

Over the past six years he has supplied each team with new uniforms, to the tune of $1,800 each.

This year he has also sponsored Whangarei’s Hells Wives women’s roller derby team –providing $2,000 for their bright red attire.

Beth Jennens, player and chairperson for Hells Wives, says the funding has been fundamentally important to them.

“Before we had this help, we weren’t always in the same gear during games. Having the same uniforms has made us look and feel more like a team – giving us confidence,” she says.

“We recently placed 10th in the national Derby Royale tournament wearing our new outfits, and our team spirit was that much stronger because we looked and felt more professional.”

Madhav, who owns Domino’s Whangarei, says he is thrilled to be able to provide local groups with ongoing funding.

“It is my way of giving back to the community which has supported me and my business for more than 12 years. I am a true sports nut, and I go along to weekend games whenever I can to follow the teams’ progress.”

Madhav, whose daughters Puman, 18, Neelam, 16, and son Roshan, 7, have all played or play soccer, says the sponsorships are a perfect fit for his business.

“It’s important our youth get involved in community activities which promote fun times shared with friends and family, and this ties in naturally with the ethos of the company,” he says.

“My pizza store was the first in Whangarei, and through such partnerships I have forged great relationships with my customers over the years.”
